Web-based enquiry engine for government agency
A major government agency was completely reconstructing its approach to
services provided to its public. This had a major impact on the working of
the internal teams and the way in which knowledge and information was
deployed. We worked with the Business Support group to create a
"front end" presence for the transformation applicable to the
market place. As well as representing the views of the agency within the
transformation I also defined and project managed the following deliverables
using a mix of PRINCE2 and DSDM (RAD) methods:
- Update to the existing web site to cover new schemes and updated
eligibility criteria
- Implementing changes within the operations of various directorates to
match the new ways of working and the fundamental changes in funding –
this included working with groups who were to be outsourced and ensuring
that all marketing messages were in alignment with the new policies
- The online search and refinement of information covering support
schemes
- The back office systems (including applications and reporting)
covering three specific grant/loan products aimed at the market
The new website was a major undertaking. We redesigned the support
information to fit with the new information model. Driven by a ground-up
review of requirements and retrieval methods andI completely redesigned the
enquiry engine to allow searching down to local authority level, and
outsourced the supply of large amounts of third-party data to drive the
20-fold increase in coverage of the information. This involved developing a
new Business Case, handling all the Project Management aspects of the
project, procuring a service supplier under S-CAT rules and working with the
existing vendors to implement XML driven syndication methods to keep the
site cleanly and securely up to date.
